In this video I show how to identify fat wood from the southern pine, its bark and needles and collect some shavings for fire starter demonstration. Pine pitch also comes from the same tree and can be used in conjunction to accelerate the fire. The southern yellow pine sometimes called a "jack pine" seems to harbor the most resin and has the red color in the center of the heartwood.
