What Will 2023 Bring to the Car Community? Advertising and How it May Ruin Car Channels

2023 is here, but what can we expect? Financial crisis, inflation, car prices rising, and overall lots of changes coming. What can we do to brace for it?

The focus of this video will be on what to expect from car channels, and car videos. As consumer spending drops, layoffs at nearly every major company, people will spend less. When people spend less, companies wont buy ads. Google will offer cheaper ad space, which results in Youtube channels making less from these ads.

This will affect mostly larger channels, that rely on that income to operate. With less advertiser money coming in from Google, channels will be pushing in-content ads. We all know them, and there is nothing wrong about them, however, when channels begin pushing MORE of these, for longer and longer chunks of a video, it will have a big effect.

As a viewer myself, it can be frustrating, watching a video and realizing that it was nothing but a ten minute long infomercial. The channel’s opinion is biased. You think you get what they truly believe, but nope. Its all just a big ad.

This is already happening, and I chose two channels that are the most notable infomercial type videos.

Knockout360 to me at least, feels like its trying to cast a wide net, with contradicting view points, particularly on Dodge and electric vehicles (EV). One video he praises Dodge, one video he predicts their bankruptcy. All of them have the long car alarm commercials (some with questionable statements that might actually help thieves steal cars with this system installed).

Widebody Nation is another channel that seems to have a permanent relationship with the Destroyer1320 antitheft plate. In itself, its fine, so long as buyers are informed of the risks. As far as I could see from watching these videos, not once was this brought up. Dodge has the neutral release, like most every other manufacturer there for a reason. In a crash, it may save a life, unless it’s blocked off.

This will only get worse, as more channels will adopt this aggressive sales tactic, in effect ruining car channels that many of us enjoyed. Between political aspects, cultural ones, and Big Tech behavior, it will be difficult as a viewer to find enjoyable or useful videos.

I will do what I can though, because I care about car culture, American culture, and that is why I do many an announcement at the end of the video.
