Why Do People Become Misanthropes?

People become misanthropes for various reasons, including disappointment in humanity, negative experiences with others, and exposure to the darker aspects of society. Some may feel disillusioned by the actions of others and come to believe that humans are inherently selfish and untrustworthy. Others may have suffered abuse, betrayal, or some other form of harm at the hands of others, leading to a general mistrust of humanity. Many have a personality that is introverted or more inclined to pessimism, leading them to be more critical of others. Negative childhood experiences may leave people feeling isolated or socially awkward, leading to a negative view of human relationships. Depression, anxiety, or exposure to acts of cruelty, violence, and injustice can contribute to a misanthropic outlook. Still, others may be influenced by societal or cultural factors, such as media portrayals of people as corrupt or violent. For me, many of these factors played a part, but one thing that is clear, I became a misanthrope because humans are often stupid and cruel.

  • Not a misanthrope; just a bit (or very) sarcastic! (Most days) Thanks for that collection of paintings; evocative! Fake happy is not good enough; I bet you find the deepest pleasures; because of your honesty. In my case it seems like being hated (or trolled by paid drongos or 'bots) is good for self-esteem. You can get a video banned for honesty - respectable!

  • There have been a few good cultures in history like the European Enlightenment and Ancient Athens. In comparison to these, the rest of humanity is clearly moronic scum. And since there are no good cultures today, almost all of humanity is currently moronic scum.
