On January 17th, at approximately 02:48 PM, I, Trooper James Harrell was traveling south on Interstate 530 near the mile marker 19. I observed a black Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle with the Hayabusa emblem on the right front fairing in gold and yellow. As the motorcycle passed me in the left lane, I could see that the operator of the motorcycle was wearing a black vest displaying the words Low Riders across the top part of his vest along with an emblem in the middle of the vest.
I initiated my lights and attempted to execute a traffic stop on the motorcycle for not displaying a license plate. The motorcycle initially pulled off to the right shoulder as if it was going to stop. The operator of the motorcycle continued to drive on the shoulder for a short distance before he accelerated at a high rate of speed and began actively fleeing.
I pursued the motorcycle south on Interstate 530 from mile marker 19 to exit 30 at speeds over 130 miles per hour. I lost visual contact with the suspect on the motorcycle as I approached Exit 30, but with other Troopers and officers on standby south of my location, we knew he took Exit 30 and proceeded in an unknown direction on State Highway 104. I was instructed by Sgt. Preston to terminate the pursuit at this time since I did not have a continuous visual of the suspect.
The pursuit was terminated, and an investigation is underway to the identity of the suspect that was occupying the motorcycle at the time of this pursuit.
