Neither Here, Nor There: "Nothing, in Particular"

This is first piece from the final set of piano pieces I composed while earning my degree. The theme for the set is "rocks in space" and the idea for this one is a rock that is traversing the moon before settling in a crater.

I was heavily influenced by Igor Stravinsky and Alexander Scriabin. The entire piece is based on varying extrapolations of a German Augmented 6 chord. For this one, I use the two halves of the chord as an underlying accompaniment while embellishing a whole tone scale in the melody. The bass and drums were added much later.
