FFW 28.1- DXVK 2.1 Out Now, What’s New?

DXVK is the DirectX to Vulkan translation layer for DX 9-11 games. It is what makes it tenable to play these titles in Linux, in terms of graphics and audio. Pretty key to keep improving this, so it is good that they are. So, what is new?

· HDR support (limited by lack of support in most Linux desktop environments and missing NVIDIA api calls)
· Improved shader compilation
· A GLFW backend for native Linux builds of DXVK as an alternative to the SDL2 backend
· Two new options (d3d9.forceSampleRateShading and d3d11.forceSampleRateShading) for enabling sample rate shading for all shaders on older games that support MSAA.
· Game-specific improvements
o Red Dead Redemption 2
o Ashes of the Singularity
o Battlefield: Bad Company 2
o Cardfight!! Vanguard
o Gujian 3
o Resident Evil 4 HD
o Saints Row: The Third
o Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
o Sonic Frontiers
o Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance

FFW 28.2: Proton News

The Latest Proton Experimental and GE-Proton releases are out. If you need a boost in these specific areas, with these games, check them out, if not, maybe skip it to avoid aggravation. These are not final versions, but are stepping stones, and while they may solve some problems, they may cause others, as with these versions of Proton, you are more or less the guinea pig. Let’s see what’s new in each, shall we?

Proton Experimental:
· Improve multi-touch support.
· Fix native scrollbar being always visible in Final Fantasy XIV Online launcher

GE-Proton:
· DXVK hotfix to deal with bad cache files being written (your mileage may vary on this)

FFW 28.3: Moar EA Games Now Work in Linux

So, while recently Jedi: Fallen Order, Sims 4, Titanfall 2, and Battlefield 1 were added to the Proton playable list, here are a host more (at least until EA borks them again):

· A Way Out
· Battlefield 4 & 5
· It Takes Two
· Madden NFL 21 - 23
· Mass Effect: Andromeda Deluxe Edition
· Mass Effect Legendary Edition
· Mirror's Edge Catalyst
· Need for Speed Heat
· Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered
· Need for Speed Most Wanted
· Need for Speed Rivals
· Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2: Deluxe Edition
· Unravel Two

If you’re a gamer, this should be music to your ears... Maybe you won’t need to dualboot anymore, or perhaps that VM won’t be needed anymore. What’s your story?
