This is episode one in a series on the life and crimes of Lee Harvey Oswald. It focuses mostly on his years in the Marine Corps, his years living in the Soviet Union and his meeting and romance with his wife Marina. The main source used for this was the book “Marina and Lee” by Priscilla McMillan, the most intimate portrait of Oswald I have ever read. McMillan lived with Marina for several months while researching the book in 1964. The recollections of everyone involved were fresh and not yet tainted by conspiracy theories. McMillan was uniquely qualified not only as a fabulous researcher and journalist, but she was also one of the only people on earth who had personally known or interviewed both Kennedy and Oswald. She interviewed Oswald in 1959, during his time in Russia. McMillan said her goal with writing the book was to help Jack understand why he died. While Marina has since changed her mind about her husband’s guilt, after being introduced to conspiracy theories, I believe her memories here more accurately reflect her mind at the time. Dozens of other people who knew Oswald were also interviewed and it’s as close as we the public may ever come to understanding who Oswald was.
