Global Warming From Fossil Fuels. Increased greenhouse gas emissions have caused temperatures to rise, leading to catastrophic events around the world – from Australia and the US experiencing some of the most devastating forest fires ever recorded, locusts swarmed parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia, destroying crops.

Scientists warn that the planet has passed a series of tipping points that could have catastrophic consequences, microplastics found in Antarctic ice for the first time, a heat wave in Antarctica which saw temperatures rise above 20 degrees for the first time, warnings of advancing permafrost melting in the Arctic region, Greenland's ice sheet is melting at an unprecedented rate, increasing deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, an air pollution warning exacerbating the spread of viruses on earth.

China experiences worst floods in decades, methane levels rise to record highs, Canada's last intact ice sheet collapses, a national park in the US records the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth, 13% of deaths in EU linked to various forms of pollution, a report says that wildlife population sizes have seen an average 68% decline since 1970 and record-breaking wildfires in California blocked sunlight – and these are just a few of those events.

However, a study found that even if all greenhouse gas emissions were stopped by 2020, global warming would only stop around 2033. It is critical that we reduce greenhouse gas emissions; fortunately, this year will see the highest uptake of renewable energy projects worldwide.
