Transplanting kale into a grow bag

After winterizing the raised garden bed, we wanted to get the kale out of the garden bed so if another cold blast happens the kale can be brought inside the garage so that the cold doesn’t kill off the kale like it did all the other vegetables in the raised garden bed. This is how I transplanted the kale plant into a grow bag. I made the grow bag mix with a compost and top soil mix from Ace hardware. I used 5 gallons of the soil mix and 2.5 gallons of the rice hulls. Then added it into a 10 gallon grow bag. I carefully dug around the plant trying not to damage the roots that go straight down(tap root). After lifting the kale out of the raised garden bed I lowered it into the the grow bag fluffing the soil underneath the roots to help soil get around the loose roots. After the transplant, the plants were watered in. And 2-3 days later some fish emulsion was added to help feed the kale plants.

I’m trying rice hulls, there was a shortage of perlite and vermiculite. They should help to provide aeration and will eventually breakdown in the soil adding organic matter back into the soil.
