The Mercury Summer Theatre of the Air: The Hitch-Hiker

Originally aired June 21st, 1946

A man on a long drive repeatedly sees the same man looking for a ride. Story by Lucille Fletcher.

Produced, directed, and starring Orson Welles, the Mercury Summer Theater of the Air lasted 15 episodes in the summer of 1946. It offered 30 minute adaptions of classic plays and novels (the original Mercury Theatre of the Air offered 60 minute adapations). Though a throwback to the original, as well as the Campbell Playhouse, the series wasn't quite as successful.
