Step by Step showing you how to tie the Black Moose wet fly.

Hook: Mustad 3399, #4-#14
Thread: Danville 6/0, Black
Tip: Danville Silver/Gold Mylar Tinsel, #14
Tail: Rooster Saddle, Green
Body: Danville 4-Strand Rayon Floss, Black
Wing: Purple Goose Quill over Guineafowl

The Black Moose is another fly from Ray Bergman's Trout (Page 425, plate #1). I do not know much about this fly but very much like the colors. The purple, green and mottled Guinea make this fly really pop. I also found it to be intriguing because there is not rib or a hackle on this fly. The rib often is in place to help protect the body material. I think you could add a silver rib on this or even add a layer of head cement or UV material over the body to help protect the fly and make it last longer. I also think it would be interesting to add a green or purple throat to the Black Moose to see if it helps it's effectiveness. I think it would be a great fly for muddy or cloudy waters as the black and purple would make the fly stand out more. - Enjoy
