Salmon Fishing the Ahnapee River

I arrived at my fishing spot on the Ahnapee River at 8:00 it was about 45 degrees, and slightly overcast, but the sky was clearing the longer I was there. I began fishing with the type of stick bait a friend Joe had told my wife I should use. After getting my equipment set up and making about two casts a couple from Eau Claire Wisconsin showed up on the opposite bank of the river to fish and keep me company. We talked about the use of spawn as that was what he was using, after about four casts I had a bite. I thought maybe it was a snag but as you will see it was not and my first fish was 17 pounds. A second fish took the same bait which was a Rapala floating three treble hook stick bait size 10 or 11 (about 4” long), I ended up losing that fish and my stick bait as he made a downstream run and my line broke, I had just tightened the drag shortly before he broke the line. The third fish was a monster 42” long and 30 pounds, you can see the whole footage of the fight from beginning to end, he made 3 full runs downstream, both fish I caught were males. I was fishing with a Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 spinning combo. Good luck fishing!
