It's time for Black-Eyed Peas!!! Did you know this New Year tradition started back during the Civil War? Black-Eyed peas & greens were just about all families had left to keep them alive when the men went off to fight. It became a staple of "good luck." Be sure you have at least a bite! This is how we like ours. Southern Black-Eyed Peas, y'all go make you some!

Southern Black-Eyed Peas
12 oz bag frozen Black-Eyed Peas
water to cover
3 slices bacon, uncooked
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 to 1 1/2 tsp salt, to your taste

Place peas in a medium sauce pan and cover well with water. Add bacon & seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cover. Stir every 10 minutes until tender. Taste and adjust seasonings to your taste.
