"Truly Madly Deeply," written by Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones, was Savage Garden's third top 40 hit rising to the no. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1998 and remained on the chart for a full 52 weeks (Whitburn, 2013). Additionally, the song "spent a record 123 weeks on the [Billboard] US Adult Contemporary chart, topping it for 11 weeks. In 2011, Billboard magazine published their list of the top 100 Adult Contemporary songs of all time, and "Truly Madly Deeply" came in at #1" (songfacts, 2022). The song also rose to no. 1 in their home country of Australia and Canada (Hayes explained the writing of the song: "I'd only just gotten married and I was away from my wife. I was a 22-, 23-year-old baby in this new marriage, I'd never lived outside of my own city before and was genuinely just lost and sad. I wrote that song for her, about my wife and how much I missed her" (apple.music, 1997). Hayes and his wife later divorced (songfacts, 2022).
