French Mattresses are a lovely way to create extra bespoke cushioning for window seats, day beds, benches and occasional furniture for your interior in hallways, living rooms, bedrooms etc. The thickness and buttoning depth can vary to give different effect.

This video shows start to finish making of a traditional buttoned French Mattress using a beautiful traditional woven cotton ticking stripe in smoke colour from Ian Mankin. Rather than standard covered buttons that are hard and may be uncomfortable, I've used a more traditional tufted button method using a gathered circle of fabric.

The mattress itself is made from foam, wrapped in polyster wadding and has has a feather topper to give a weightier for authentic feel.
