How To Make A Simple Patchwork Cushion With Easiest Piping Join
This is one of several patchwork cushions I made a couple of years ago. I needed to make them quickly and simply so this method was a good one to use. Overlapping the ends of the piping is probably the quickest way I know of creating an acceptable join.
I also added the zip in the back panel rather than in the edge for the same reason. It's an easy method (I'll do a separate video one day as I don't show it here) and much quicker. You can also make it without a zip at all and simply slip stitch the cushion closed once the inner is in.

French Mattresses are a lovely way to create extra bespoke cushioning for window seats, day beds, benches and occasional furniture for your interior in hallways, living rooms, bedrooms etc. The thickness and buttoning depth can vary to give different effect.
This video shows start to finish making of a traditional buttoned French Mattress using a beautiful traditional woven cotton ticking stripe in smoke colour from Ian Mankin. Rather than standard covered buttons that are hard and may be uncomfortable, I've used a more traditional tufted button method using a gathered circle of fabric.
The mattress itself is made from foam, wrapped in polyster wadding and has has a feather topper to give a weightier for authentic feel.

Flanged Cord Panel Cushion YT
Flanged braided cord can be very problematic to apply by machine and get a really neat finish so ensuring the use the right method is imperative. Careful sewing on the correct side to of the cord ensures that very little of the flanging shows around cushion edges and neatly joining the cord ends.
In this video I hope you can see some of the methods used to acheive the best finish around cushions. These particular cushions are made using 3 different fabrics; a patterned Art Of The Loom fabric panel in the centre of the front flanked by Romo Linara each side and backed in a Wemyss velvet. The cusions are also zipped at the edge.
Apologies for the blurry footage in a small part of the video and thank you for watching. Please follow me to see what I'm up to on a day to day basis;

Colefax Fowler Linen Pinch Pleat To Pattern
Music: Images Of Tomorrow by Unicorn Head
Fabric: Esta in Red/Forest by Colefax & Fowler
You join me in the latter stages of making the most beautiful lined and interlined fully hand sewn curtains with lovely traditional triple pinch pleats carefully located to follow the design of the fabric and create a pleat to pattern finish. The fabric was not only a somewhat unstable linen which twists and skews as its worked on, it was also printed in a rather rudimentary fashion so the pattern doesn't line up across the width. The stripes that run vertically are also not evenly spaced and there was barely any extra print at the selvedges to create a good pattern match. Because of all these quirks, getting straight bottom and side hems was a challenge in itself. Extra fabric had to be added to the selvedges to create false turns so that pattern reuired to make turnings and form the pleat to pttern heading was not lost. A compromise approach was therefore necessary to share out all these quirks to create the most pleasing curtains with good pattern placement.
I pick up recording after the curtains themselves are made and I've added the buckram and turned to the top hems at the heading.
🕑 TIMESTAMPS 🕑
00:05 - Slip stitching the lining to the fabric hem at the top of the curtain
05:55 - Ironing the top hem
06:06 - Turning the curtain over
06:14 - Ironing the heading from the face to fix the buckram in place
06:30 - Calculated pleat locations and marking with pins
07:18 - Machining the pleats into the buckram (not filmed)
07:28 - Finger pressing open the pleat seams
07:42 - Forming the buckram heading into triple pleats
08:25 - Backtacking the bottom of the pleats at the machine (not filmed)
08:28 - Checing, flattening and arranging the finished curtain at the table
08:47 - Inserting pin hooks
09:12 - Test hanging the curtain in the workroom
09:24 - The finished curtain

Making Vintage Ashley Wilde Interlined Pinch Pleat Curtain | Remakes
They say vintage is anything over 25 years old. Well then, I think this Ashley Wilde fabric just about qualifies as it's an old style 48" wide so most likely it's from the nineties and is the perfect candidate for #recyledcurtains. I remember making up fabrics just like this in my first workroom at #thewindmillworkroom back in the nineties. The burgundy, blue and green combination was very popular at the time.
There was so much #ashleywilde fabric here that was is such great condition that I could completely understand why the customer wanted to #makingnewcurtainsfromold and how you too can #makingnewcurtainsfromold at home.
My ID client cleverly teamed it up the #classicstripe with a gorgeous #artoftheloom #woolherringbone fabric that was a beautiful warm grey tone at first glance but was actually a blend of all the colours in the stripe.
You will see me make a pair of 2.5 widths and a single 5.5 width all #handsewn lined and #interlinedcurtains and with #doublepinchpleat heading.
I also have #pelmets and #tiebacks to make in the plain wool herringbone with contrast bias cut piping detail in the stripe. That video will be a much more detailed trade only video tutorial for my Patreon members only. Please see link below if you would like to sign up.

How To Make An Oxford Cushion With Invisible Zip
Fabric - Prestigious Textiles
Back to basics tutorial demonstrating how to make an Oxford style cushion cover complete with invisible zip. As usual there are many ways to make even this simple cushion and there are (usually) no right or wrong ways. In fact sometimes I might make Oxford cushions in a different way depending on the client's specification or the fabric type or pattern or even the availability or design of the fabric.
This method is just how I prefer to make them most of the time and because the zip needs to go on the back I like to use an invisible zip. Invisible zips can be tricky things to sew so hopefully this will give you a few pointers on how to insert them in a fuss free way. Again, there are other ways to do even this task; some people like to part sew the seam at each end leaving an opening for the zip. That's fine too, whichever way you find most comfortable.
As always, if you have any questions or queries please just ask.

French Mattress Making Part 2 - Tufted Buttoning
Making and adding the tufted buttons to this French Mattress is a fiddly little job but well worth it. The buttons themselves are just simple little discs of fabric gathered up to create a little scruchy rosette but adding them to the Mattress.... now that's the tough bit that can make the fingers sore. I would have find this job easier had I been able to find my good old trusty upholstery needle that's about a foot long but, for the life of me, I don't know in which box I've stowed it away 'safely'. Anyway I did manage with a smaller needle but it was a challenge.... and now my fingers hurt!

Full Making Interlined Roman Blind in The Monkey Puzzle Tree Velvet
Velvet - 'Rita Does Jazz' from The Monkey Puzzle Tree
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4RWjJkA6LAsqY3YTc3OjBQ
This is a shortened version of a full #tradeonly #videotutorial I made for the 'Trade Pro' tier of my #Patreon channel on how I make an #interlined #Romanblind from start to finish. I couldn't resist the opportunity whilst I was making up this lovely printed velvet from #TheMonkeyPuzzleTree. My go to method is to use a running #lockingstitch to keep all the layers together as I'm not a big fan of stab stitching and find this method takes pretty much the same length of time anyway and creates a super neat finish.
I have included an introduction and then continue to show most of the making right to completion

Speedy Making Of Two Voyage Piped And Zipped Cushions
I just found this footage from way back in 2017, edited in 2019 and then appeared to completely forget about. Anyway..... found it again now!
This is a speeded up version of me making two simple #piped and #zipped scatter #cushions in a very pretty fabric from #VoyageFabrics. There are may ways to create a join in the piping. This one is a tapered overlapwhich is one of the quickest and easiest to do.
