December 9, 2022, at approximately 10:24 pm, I Trp. Tyler Grant along with Sgt. Wade Schanzlin, TFC. Ross Allen, and Trp. Walker Morphis, were conducting a sobriety checkpoint on United States Highway 82 and Marias Saline Road. During the checkpoint, I observed a set of vehicle headlights traveling eastbound on United States Highway 82 toward our location. As the vehicle approached the checkpoint, it stopped and made a quick U-turn in the middle of United States Highway 82. The vehicle then traveled westbound on United States Highway 82 at a high rate of speed.
I returned to my patrol vehicle, activated my emergency equipment, and traveled west on United States Highway 82 towards it. As I caught up to the vehicle, I observed that it was a white SUV bearing Arkansas License Plate AET71S. A registration check was conducted on the vehicle which listed the registered owner as Jessica Triplet. The SUV continued westbound on United States Highway 82 at speeds in excess of 120 MPH. After traveling approximately eight miles on United States Highway 82, the SUV entered the City of Strong. The SUV turned left into a store parking lot and continued onto B Street. After approximately one-half mile, the SUV turned left onto F Street. The SUV then traveled through a residential yard and continued onto G Street. After traveling approximately one-half mile, the driver, later identified as Kenny Lewis, exited the vehicle on foot and began to flee to a nearby house. As I pursued Mr. Lewis, a passenger later identified as Jessica Triplet, took control of the white SUV, and fled from the scene.
Mr. Lewis was subsequently taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Mr. Lewis had several confirmed arrest warrants out of neighboring agencies and an Arkansas Board of Parole Absconder Warrant. Mr. Lewis was transported to the Ashley County Dentation Facility and charged with felony fleeing, reckless driving, obstructing governmental operations, driving on a suspended license, fleeing on foot, and speeding.
The white SUV was later found wrecked and abandoned on B Street in Strong by Union County Sheriff’s Deputies. J and A Towing from El Dorado towed the vehicle from the scene.
On December 10, 2022, at 7:37 pm, Jessica Triplet met me at the Crossett Police Department to give a statement of what happened during the pursuit of the white SUV. Ms. Triplet’s Miranda Rights were read and explained to her prior to her giving a statement. Ms. Triplet admitted that she was the passenger in the white SUV. Ms. Triplet stated that after Mr. Lewis jumped out of the vehicle, she took control of the white SUV and drove away. Ms. Triplet then stated that she wrecked the white SUV into a ditch and abandoned it on B Street. Ms. Triplet was charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, obstructing governmental operations, and no liability insurance.
