Step by Step showing you how to tie the The Blue Professor wet fly.

Hook: Mustad 3399, #6-#14
Thread: Danville 6/0, White & Black
Tail: Goose Shoulder, Red
Rib: Danville Mylar Tinsel, Gold, #16/18
Body: Danville 4-strand Rayon Floss, Copenhagen Blue
Throat: Schlappen, Brown
Wing: Mallard Flank

The Blue Professor is just a variation of the regular Professor which has Yellow Floss for the body. I tied the Professor a few years ago but tied it a bit different than this version. First of all, it has Blue floss, a Copenhagen Blue to be exact. Danville has about four or five different shades of blue floss. Also, in this version I use red Goose Shoulder for the tail and in the previous video I simply used red Rooster hackle fibers. Otherwise, the Blue Professor is the same as the regular Professor. I wanted to tie this because in warmwater circles Blue is a very effective color. I want to fish some of these this next spring and summer and see how they do.

One other note, I mentioned in the video that the bags of "Mallard Flank" you purchase at the fly shop is not really Mallard Flank. It is more like the breast and belly feathers. This can make a difference in creating the wing for the Professor. I recently ran across a great video by Kelly Gallop explaining (on a real Mallard no less) the actual flank feathers and what is labeled Flank Feathers. Check it out here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmGcClu-7WY. He has many great videos if you have not checked out his channel. - Enjoy
