The conflict in Ukraine has given rise to a new security paradox in Europe. Many in the West argue that, until Russia is truly democratic, Ukraine will need Western security guarantees. For its part, Moscow insists that until the world is multipolar and global governance is authentically democratic, NATO and the expansion of Western military infrastructure toward Russian borders will present an existential security threat for Russia. Can these contentions be reconciled without another continental war in Europe? To discuss this, Oksana is joined by Thomas Greminger, director of the Geneva Center for Security Policy and former secretary-general of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

This interview was held on the sidelines of the 2022 Primakov Readings.
