Nigeria approves new national language policy, shifting away from English

African languages are receiving a renewed prominence in Nigeria. The government has approved a National Language Policy, aiming to shift the focus from English to native languages in the West African nation. Students are to focus on developing their skills in their mother tongue at elementary school, combining it with English later on.
