I Don’t Understand the World Cup

Why are people so passionate the World Cup? And about soccer? I know it’s football in other countries. They have huge stadiums! Europeans and South Americans love this stuff! I got caught up in a bar with soccer fans and they’re screaming their heads off. Guys, nothing is happening. Oh your team has the ball? Great, you’re 75 yards from the goal! I don’t get this sport.
