10,000 soldiers and law enforcement officers have been deployed to the El Salvadorian town of Soyapango as part of a massive crackdown on local gangs. Police cordoned off all roads leading in and out of town, checking the ID of anyone trying to leave in an attempt to find suspected gang members.

‘Starting now, the township of Soyapango is completely surrounded,’ President Nayib Bukele stated via Twitter, just in case the residents had failed to notice the small army occupying the town. According to the justice minister, twelve people have been arrested. Twelve.
