Audio Only-Barred Owl Courting Duet 🦉 11/29/22 22:01

Only heard and not seen, are a pair of Barred Owls doing their courting duet. Courtship involves both the male and female bobbing and bowing heads, raising their wings, and calling while perched close together. The male may feed the female in courtship. They are the same as the Great Horned Owl as they will pick a nest site that is in a large natural hollow in a tree, a broken-off snag, or on an old nest of a Hawk, Crow, or Squirrel. As many may remember from the Great Horned Owl's last nesting season here, there were a pair of Barred Owls in their territory at that time as well. Unfortunately, it did not end well for one of the Barred Owls, as the Great Horned Owl and the Barred Owl will not accept each other sharing the same territory.
