HDDs are going extinct
Hard drives may finally be reaching the end of their existence as sales have suffered a massive 30 to 40% dip this year.
So while enterprise-grade drives haven’t really decreased all that much in sales.
The hard drives in the consumer sector seem to be slowing down a whole lot.
Both the normal 3.5” desktop drives & mobile 2.5” drives have reportedly dropped about 30-40% in units sold compared to the same time last year, as most consumers are only using hard drives as backup storage devices at this point.
Not to mention that SSDs are constantly improving & also getting cheaper as well.
Hard drives shouldn’t go extinct for a long time especially in the enterprise sector, but they could become the niche storage device to own as a general consumer in the next few years.
