Europe’s biggest satellite internet companies take on Starlink
Satellite internet operators OneWeb and Eutelsat are planning to combine their forces to try & take on SpaceX's Starlink.
Eutelsat currently has a fleet of 36 geostationary orbit satellites and OneWeb has another 428 satellites in orbit.
More launches are planned in the future, but it’s gonna be hard to catch up to Starlink as they currently have over 2500 deployed satellites.
The companies have a combined revenue of about €1.2 billion & are still awaiting approval from regulators for their merger.
Overall it’s great that we’re getting some more competition in this new area of the Internet backbone.
Satellite internet is great for very remote users, but also a fantastic redundancy network in case we would need it.
