At the Movies w/ Robert & Alex: Airport

Continuing our Movie marathon, Alex and I watch the Airport franchise, starting with the first one in 1970...and the sad thing is this movie is unfairly lumped in with the Disaster movies when the disaster moment is only in the last 30 minutes.

We get the night at an airport during a big storm and it's entirely a character piece!

Oh and we're introduced to the character of Joe played by George Kennedy! A character who lasts the entire franchise and is such an amazing character!

In this large-ensemble disaster movie, Mel Bakersfeld (Burt Lancaster), the general manager of a Chicago-area airport, must contend with a massive snowstorm and other issues, both work-related and personal, while the troubled D.O. Guerrero (Van Heflin) threatens to blow up an airliner. As pilot Vernon Demerest (Dean Martin) attempts to calm Guerrero down and dissuade him from setting off explosives on the plane, tensions increase in the air and on the ground, and danger is imminent.
