Hidden Aircraft Monitoring Post - ROC post
Many people know the ROC (Royal Observer Corps) from their nuclear monitoring role during the cold war. Prior to this, they were responsible for aircraft observations. The ROC volunteers were able to spot and identify aircraft and report them to their command. Put simply they were tasked with identifying an aircraft as a friend or a foe. Very often you will find the remains of an aircraft monitoring pot close to an ROC bunker. The ROC built the nuclear monitoring bunkers very close to their existing monitoring posts because they already had local volunteers and the land would have been suitable for both roles. In this video, we cover a case where an existing structure was re-purposed to act as the base for an aircraft monitoring post.
