Is this the WORST Challenger to get? Its missing the Wide Body, it has narrow pizza slicer wheels, it doesn’t have the red interior, no Shaker package. So why did I get this car off the lot?
Why? Because this is the BEST manual transmission car I ever drove, the 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Scat Pack 392 Hemi. With MTX (stick shift) transmissions being in short supply from Tremec, ordering one of these for 2023 is a big risk. Finding them on the lot is even harder, so when I came across this beauty is Pitch Black, with red calipers, I knew I had to get it.
The low price helped as well (cheaper than a 5.7L Hemi R/T on the lot, granted that has a shaker hood), a very good warranty, 10yrs 100,000 miles full bumper to bumper (ideal for a driving car) all pale compared to the joy of the manual transmission.
Bill from @CuriousCars (or is it @Curious_Cars) first got me DESPERATE to get in on the New Era of Muscle from Dodge, with this funny review of a white Wide Body Challenger (which is what pushed me to go Super Stock). After that, it was a rabbit hole of packaged and options, sights, sounds, and the Apache naturally aspirated 6.4L Hemi (392 cubic inch) delivers a punch.
The Challenger is both smooth and tame in normal driving, but is a beast when driving aggressively, slamming the throttle down throws the tail out, but in such a big heavy car, it never feels beyond your control. The mechanical heavy shifter reminds you this is a machine, one you don’t have to be dainty around. It can handle it. Can you?
As Im writing this, I cant help but chuckle, and I may just go for a nice night drive, and find some background to let the Challenger roar. You really should consider the manual transmission Challenger. It feels better than the Camaro, although honestly, they are all great.
So go test drive, and get yourself a manual car, and #SaveTheManuals
