Eastern mysticism: Kuda Kepang Dance

The literal translation of the Bahasa Malay word "Kuda Kepang" is "Horse Braid." This Javanese-inspired traditional Malay dance is accompanied by a gamelan ensemble made up of drums, a gong, and an angklung (tubular chimes made from bamboo wood). Dancers go into a trance-like state throughout the performance, when spirits take over and direct them to create a dance that is distinctively Southeast Asian. Though it is no longer a common sight at weddings today, this dance is still done during Malay wedding festivities and at cultural events. This 2.5-minute video emphasizes the dance's distinctiveness.
