"Smile A Little Smile For Me," written by Tony MacAulay and Geoff Stephens, was the Flying Machine's debut release and only top 40 hit landing at the no. 5 position in 1969; the group is officially a one-hit wonder (Whitburn, 2013). The group was a studio project by MacAulay and Stephens; when the song became a hit, they put together a touring group featuring Tony Newman as its lead vocalist (B. Eder, music.apple, 2022; geezermusicclub, 2018; Whitburn, 2013). MacAulay was also the co-writer of Edison Lighthouse's single hit "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) (Whitburn, 2013)..
