Modern Bibles Make Salvation Difficult

Modern Bibles such as the ESV, the NLT, and the NKJV make salvation difficult in Matthew 7:13-14 and introduce a works-based message into the pure Gospel of grace.

Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV):
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Modern Bibles add the word "hard" or "difficult" to the strait and narrow gate, whereas King James does not.

Matthew 7:13-14 (ESV):
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NLT):
You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV):
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
