Edward “Jake” Wagner began dating Hana Rhoden when he was 18 and she was just 13. At 16, she gave birth to his daughter. A bitter feud began after she refused to share custody. The Wagner family set out on a diabolical plot to murder the Rhodens to gain custody of the girl They forged custody papers, bought ammo, silencers, and cell phone jammers. On the night of April 21they murdered the Rhodens.
During their plotting, Jake’s mother Angela obtained Facebook messages sent by Hana - one which cryptically read "(I'll) never sign papers ever. They will have to kill me first.”
Jake and his mother Angela have pled guilty to the eight murders as well as more than a dozen other charges related to the murders. As part Jake’s deal no one in his family will get the death penalty. The trial of his 31 year old brother George is ongoing. His father will stand trial at a later date.
This is the biggest and most expensive homicide case in Ohio’s history.
