The white-headed sea eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus (Linnaeus, 1766)), also erroneously called the "bald eagle" from the translation of the English word bald, is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, widespread in North America.
It has been the symbol of the United States since 1782 as well as of some divisions of that country's armed forces, such as the 101st Division.
