ARE YOU LEADING FOR A CAUSE OR JUST BECAUSE?

“This is not a distinction without a difference. Leaders who are cause oriented and cause driven must be able to articulate their passion for, involvement in and connection to a cause in order to rally people to the cause. A leader who leads ‘just because’ is generally more interested career or job security than the actual cause they serve in the moment.

This is most evident when a qualified leader changes organizations on a regular basis with little to no consistency between issues they address and people they serve. Leaders in both scenarios must be able to express their expertise and qualifications well. So yes, in some cases you must be able to humbly speak of your knowledge, skills and abilities if you want to win the job or win people to the cause.” J Loren Norris
