11th in our series the Prophet Zephaniah

I. The Decree of Judgment against Philistia - Zephaniah 2:4-7
* A. The five cities of Philistia - Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron
* 1. Why is the city of Gath missing from this list?
* 2. The kingdom of Judah had finally done part of the task of God had assigned to it - 2 Chronicles 11:5-12
* B. The four remaining Philistine cities were directly judged by God 
* 1. The kingdom of Judah didn’t complete what they had started - Judges 2:1-5
* 2. God will judge all nations in this world by whatever tool He chooses to use.
* a. Those cities would be forsaken, desolate, driven out, uprooted, destroyed, and depopulated
* b. Future of these powerful cities? They would be temporary dwellings of shepherds on the move
* c. Property of the remnant of the kingdom of Judah after they return from 70 years of captivity
* C. While Judah was being disciplined by God, Philistia was being completely, irrevocably destroyed
* 1. God would intervene for Judah
* 2. God would bring a returning remnant from captivity

II. Judgment Day will come for everyone
* A. God disciplines His own true children - Hebrews 12:5-11
* 1. It is out of love God disciplines His wayward child
* 2. If there is no discipline in the life of a professing christian, it is so because they are not true children 
* B. God destroys the wicked with eternal damnation - Revelation 20:11-15
* 1. Destruction of the unrepentant & unbelieving is certain
* 2. We have only this life to make certain our name is written in the Book of Life
