Final Fantasy 6 (Pixel Remaster) - Part 31: Deathgaze & Hidon

Our next two sidequests involve two fearsome monsters, one in the sky and one in a cave. The sky monster, Deathgaze, hides out in one of the over 4,000 pixels on the world map, runs away from battle after a few turns, then retreats to another single randomly generated pixel on the world map and eventually fights you again when you find him while retaining all damage suffered between battles. Killing him gives you the Bahamut Magicite.

The cave monster, Hidon, is an ancient monster Strago and his pal Gungho used to hunt who had injured Gungho, so now Strago hunts him down for revenge! To access Hidon, go to Ebot's Rock just north of Thamasa, then take the random teleporters through the cave to find treasure chests full of coral. Once you have 22 pieces of coral, teleport back to the entrance then feed the coral to the chest to get it out of your way. Hidon is the only enemy in the game from whom Strago can learn the Grand Delta lore, so don't finish him off until he uses it.

In between fighting the two, I also stop by Narshe for the Ragnarok Magicite. You may also choose to have it forged into a Ragnarok sword, but then you'll lose your chance to learn the Ultima spell.
