Alcohol has been used for recreation and medicinal purposes for millennia. But, although alcohol in moderation is viewed as beneficial to cardiovascular health, excess alcohol is extremely harmful. Alcohol consumed in large amounts for long periods of time can cause fatty liver, inflammation of the liver, liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. Over 2 billion people drink alcohol regularly, but many can suffer the consequences of excess alcohol use, which at times, can have fatal consequences. We examine alcohol and its effect on the liver in this video. Specifically, we determine how much alcohol, and for how long it is safe to consume alcohol.
