"If you seek the Beauty of the Friend, look into your heart where that mirror hangs." ~ Attar

4:25 – "Turn to Your Heart and See the Beloved's Face" - poem by Attar

Attar's epic poem, The Conference of the Birds, is filled with enchanting stories, tales, and parables that convey a deeper meaning for how we can get closer to God.

One of the more well-known parables is the Parable of the King's Mirror, which tells of a great and beautiful King (God) who is admired by all, but unfortunately is unable to be seen by anyone. That is, of course, until he makes a great revelation that allows for all souls yearning to see and meet him to walk into his embrace.

Supplementing this parable are two poems that expound on the story's meaning, and provide some guidance and inspiration as to how we can find God.

Listen deeply to this tale, and you might be surprised by Attar's response on finding God.

All excerpts are from The Conference of the Birds by Attar, translated by Sholeh Wolpe.
