This is a shelling bean. Early harvest you can actually eat the whole beans, but as they stay on the plant longer the outer part of the bean gets though we and the bean gets larger.
When picking beans you want to use two hands as to not to damage the plant when picking the beans. Or if using one hand don’t rip the bean off the plant, use your fingers to pluck the bean off the plant.
