Retro-Bit & Renovation Games Announce Gaiares Special Edition

In this episode, we have news from Retro-Bit & Renovation Games as they have Announced Gaiares Special Edition coming in 2022 for the Sega Genesis and the Mega Drive.

Retro-bit has released some amazing collectors sets over the years. Whether we're talking about Holy Diver, R-Type, Undercover Cops, or Metal Storm, they have brought many games back for many to enjoy. They really go the extra mile too, from the terrific quality of materials, extra pack-in items are great, and it allows fans to get their hands on games that may be cost-prohibitive. Their latest effort is a collaboration to bring a collectors set for Gaiares from Renovation Games to the market.

Gaiares was released in 1990 and is a horizontal shoot ‘em up that became iconic for various reasons. Its difficulty and dynamic gameplay were a refreshing take on the typically arcade-centric genre. It blended an anime-inspired story with impressive graphics, tough bosses, and a great soundtrack all on an 8 Mb cartridge.

In order to preserve the elements of such an important release, Retro-bit has kept the gameplay intact with very minor edits due to licensing. Players can expect to play the same game as it was released over 30 years ago. This includes configuration menu settings and codes.

This is a limited release, and pre-orders will be available from retailers in North America and Europe from November 16th through December 19th, 2021. There are no regional differences in terms of what is included. You will be able to pre-order and purchase this Collector's Set from:

In this re-release, you will receive an embellished slipcover, a cartridge box with reversible artwork, an interview with James Bunker, a certificate of authenticity, a full-colored instruction manual, a commemorative t-shirt, and the game in a translucent tektite shell. There will only be this collector's edition released, at this time there are no plans for a standard edition.

One of the coolest parts of this set is that Renovation Game and Retro-bit have committed to donating a portion of the proceeds of the sale to the Video Game History Foundation. This makes sure that great organizations such as this continue to do great work at preserving what we love about the gaming hobby.

This cartridge is compatible with North American SEGA Genesis consoles, PAL Mega Drive consoles, and most 3rd party consoles that are able to run Genesis/Mega Drive cartridges. Due to the shape of the cartridge, it will not fit into a Japanese Mega Drive console. It uses a 5-volt chip to retain your console’s performance and will not damage your console. The cartridge's connector insert points are beveled and edges are rounded to allow for proper insertion without damaging the pins in the cartridge slot. Like prior releases, Retro-bit has made Gaiares region-free so long as it is compatible with the console. This means the game is multi-regional and can run at 60Hz (NTSC for North America) or 50Hz (PAL Europe and Australia).

I'll admit I wasn't familar with this title previously, but in researching for this video, it looks like a game I would completely enjoy.
