Three states meet on the rolling sand plains

On this secluded road on the rolling sand plains 8 miles west of Elkhart, Kansas, is the meeting point of the three states of Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The tri-state benchmark is located on the northern edge of the east/west road at the T-intersection of poorly maintained north/south road.

When most people think of Colorado, they think of snowcapped Rocky Mountains, not wind swept plains. Oklahoma and Kansas are very similar, yet they are considered to be in different regions of the country (the Southwest and the Midwest, respectively). The benchmark is arguably the meeting point of three distinct regions of the United States, the Southwest, the Midwest, and the Intermountain West.
