I will keep you informed on how this goes - more videos to follow including the nutrient mix / testing, types of plants used and results / problems.
Dimensions of this system are approx. 2m (6'6") x 0.75m (30") and there are 22 holes for plants which are staggered to allow for maximum growing space.
Materials used for growing system:
2 x 450 lph (118 US gph) oxy water pump: https://filterpro.co.uk/450-lph-oxy-water-pump-73-p.asp
4 x 110mm (4") pipes
4 x 50mm (2") 90 degree bends
6 x 50mm (2") tee pieces
50mm (2") pipe
4 x 110mm to 50mm (4" to 2") rubber reducers
6m (20') of 10mm (3/8") internal diameter clear pipe
2 x 10mm (3/8") barbed tee pieces
2 x 12mm (1/2") flow control taps
Holes in the growing pipes are 45mm diameter to take a standard tapered 50mm (2") perforated pot.

Original video where I saw the foam being cut to hold plants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXKfIASdSqM

From the all-knowing internet:
"Nutrient film technique (NFT) is a hydroponic technique where in a very shallow stream of water containing all the dissolved nutrients required for plant growth is re-circulated past the bare roots of plants in a watertight gully, also known as channels."

I recently bought an electronic test stick to make sure I get the nutrient levels correct and also picked up a couple of nutrient solutions formulated for leaf growth from North East Hydroponics: https://northeasthydro.com/ as I was passing one day and . Next video will discuss the nutrients, show how the test stick works and explain why it is a very important piece of kit.
When I tested the water in the reservoir which supplies the vertical growing towers it was off the scale so maybe I should have bought a test stick this time last year.....
If anyone is interested and lives local feel free to call in any time to see the systems (and share any tips) that's no worries - just give me a ring first for directions.
