Apologies for another long video but it's quite important considering the cost of electricity and the planned nonsense leading up to Agenda 2030 - Timestamps and product links below.
If you watched my video about the solar powered wildlife pond filter or the video on aquarium filtration for a power cut situation then you will recognize some of the pumps, power banks and solar panels used here but hopefully this video will be useful for anyone wanting to make simple aquarium filters or plan for a grid-down event.
Please share if you think the video is useful.

8W folding solar panel: https://geni.us/mkqpH
28W folding solar panel: https://geni.us/aGziAR
USB air pump: https://geni.us/oHW99
(From Amazon): Power consumption of this USB oxygen pump is only 0.2W, long service life, high energy saving. If you plug it into a 10000MAH power sources, it can last for approx 50 hours and still works efficiently.
Hybrid solar air pump: https://geni.us/tjmsE
26000 Solar power bank: https://geni.us/3PlO6
Clear 8mm pipe: https://geni.us/HcMEV
8mm T piece, pipe and other fittings can be bought from larger DIY stores, garden centres and some plumbing / automotive merchants - it is way cheaper than buying online.
Straight 4" (110mm) pipe and blanking end for 4" (110mm) pipe can be bought from any decent DIY store / builders merchant, koi carp / pond supplies store and short lengths of pipe can be found for free in a skip on a building site.

With regard to the 'Nitrate reduction' capability of these filters that is directly related to the type of filter media being used. The Biohome range of filter media is extremely porous and basically replicates what a deep sand bed does but it does it is a perfectly safe environment with no chance of toxic build up from anaerobic activity.
The slower the flow is through a filter the more quickly the water becomes deoxygenated due to the actions of aerobic bacteria and that allows the filter to swing more toward being suited for anaerobic bacteria. This usually happens deep inside the Biohome media (in any external water flow since the flow is slowed down INSIDE the media) but in a slow flow / low oxygen environment (very slow flow filter) more parts of the media can support anaerobic activity since the low oxygen environment inside the filter dictates the balance of active aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
Since most filters sold as 'Nitrate reactors' have the slow flow but use crappy media with very low porosity and tiny available surface area just imagine how effective they could be when used with a good quality, highly porous media.......yup.
Effective full cycle filtration is simply replicating what happens in Nature but so many people still struggle to understand how filtration works, hence my relentless explanations in the videos.......
