A Poetry Crash Course before our poetry reflections begin!

Just like artwork, poetry is greatly influenced by the periods in which it is written. Each era of poetry has common themes it shares and important context behind the works that were produced.

In this video, I rapidly review the two main eras of English poetry from which I'll be pulling our first few poems in our Poetry and Praise series. We discuss the Metaphysical and Romantic eras of English poetry, some of their stand-out traits and famous poets, and briefly touch on a poet who we will feature first who lived after these two eras, but fits better within them than in his own era.

We dive in with the poetry next week, starting with "God's Grandeur" by Gerard Manley Hopkins.

My husband and I are excited to bring you these beautiful moments of escape, to enrich your life and to give you things to take with you into your prayer or daily living.

May God be Praised!
