"CONSISTENTLY Mediocre" The MY FATHER La Opulencia Robusto - CIGAR REVIEWS by CigarScore

The first time I reviewed the My Father La Opulencia, I smoked the toro, and I thought it was my least favorite cigar from My Father. But today, I'm giving the La Opulencia a second chance, and I'm reviewing the robusto of the same blend.

The My Father La Opulencia Robusto is a great looking cigar with a slight box press to it (NOTE: that's what the BP stands for on the barcode sticker).

After cutting the end with my guillotine, the draw as alright, but a little tight. The cold draw flavors were a little green and almost sour, which surprised me.

Once I light the cigar, those funky cold draw flavors were still there, so I wasn't in love with the My Father La Opulencia Robusto at the onset. However, just a few minutes in, I got more flavors of cedar and earth with some spice thrown in for good measure.

Through the middle of the cigar, the construction was pretty good. The burn wasn't razor-sharp, but it was mostly even. However, my main complaint 33 minutes in was that I didn't love the flavors. In the final third, just like the La Opulencia toro before it, the robusto got uncomfortably hot.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned above, the My Father La Opulencia Robusto is much like the toro, and both are mediocre. Out of all of the blends Don Pepin Garcia makes under the My Father Cigars brand, the La Opulencia is my least favorite.

However, the construction of the cigar was okay, and you might like the flavors even though I think this is the weak link in the entire lineup. A rich, creamy, delicious experience like the Le Bijou 1922, this is not.

But, just because I didn't love how it tastes doesn't mean you won't. So, even though I'd skip this one, the My Father La Opulencia Robusto earns a CigarScore 4.
