Oklahoma's Gypsum Hills

Underlying rocks and minerals, namely gypsum, are responsible for the irregular erosion of the landscape, creating gullies, ravines, ledges, and escarpments. These landforms are conspicuous,, sticking out of the NW Oklahoma prairie as if from an alien planet.

These colorful mounds of earth remind me similar landforms in the Painted Desert in NE Arizona.
