Winter is Coming!! | The Homestead #27

Episode #27 of the Homestead Series
Today was the first day of snow we experienced on our property here in Northern Ontario. I'm originally from Vancouver island and Emily has lived there for the last 7 years so neither of us feel fully prepared for this winter. We have some what prepared though, by talking about some of the fears with each other, dealing with the physical issues like getting proper winter clothes, and starting to stock up on essential items to increase our ability to be self reliant. In this video I continue that process and begin doing some winterizing activities. One of the things I needed to do was winterize the plumbing in our motorhome. That meant draining the black, grey, hot and fresh water tanks. I then closed the hot water tank off from the fresh water tank, and put one gallon of RV anti freeze in the tank. I primed the pump and made sure to run water until the pipes were all full of RV anti freeze instead of water. I also continued to collect leaves as they will start breaking down and become unavailable if I wait too long into winter to harvest them for composting. I also cut my one weed plant down and hung it up to dry after a bud wash and quick wet trim. The process of winterizing this 1929 Farmhouse will take more then one day or one vlog, as there are lots of drafts to seal and places for new insulation as the renovation inside continues.
