Force management is how the Army decides on what kind of force and how much of each type to field. Examines important trade offs that must be made under conditions of uncertaity and complexity. Compares Cold War scientific strategies to more modern notions informed by complexity and chaos theory. This lecture is designed to inform students of public policy and military professionals of the essential issues associated with generating and sustaining military force. Originally recorded in 2007, the lecture holds up well and is probably more timely than ever as the Army looks to the future to replace the Future Combat Systemas its principle modernization strategy.
