Doom 2: The Master Levels - Map 1: Attack (attack.wad)

With the main story of Dragon Marked For Death finished, a new play series begins! This is another official classic Doom game I still haven't played yet, so let's play it now! Welcome to the Master Levels For Doom 2!

The Master Levels for Doom 2 was released in 1995 as an expansion pack for Doom 2 and includes 20 levels (actually 21, because one of them has a secret level built into it) released by various authors under contract. Each level is its own wad file, so unlike other Doom games, every level of this game must be played separately starting from pistol start. The PSX version of Final Doom included a few of these levels in a continuous episode, but the whole "playing each level separately" mechanic came back with the 25th aniversary re-release of Doom 2 on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. I'm playing the Switch version here.

The first Master Level is called Attack, contained in the file attack.wad, created by Tim Willits, who went on to join id Software. This is a pretty solid map. Nothing too hard out of the gate, but there are a couple Pain Elementals that can ruin your day if you're not prepared for them. Pretty easy once you get the Super Shotgun, though.
