President Alvi writes to PM Sharif over torture of journalists

President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on 7 July, has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveying his 'deep concern' over rising trend of harassment and torture of journalists and media persons.

The President, referring to the recent incidents of violence against journalists, said such actions reflected a mindset of intolerance. "Such incidents come under international focus and tarnish the image of our country," remarked the President.

The President emphasized that actions of previous governments should not be used as a ruse to perpetrate violence.
